CORRUPTION- WHERE DOES THE FAULT LIE!?

The action or effect of making someone or something morally depraved- is how we know corruption as. But I think of corruption as an evil disease for our society, whose reach is beyond imagination. An anonymous person once said "The world will not be destroyed by those who do evil, but by those who watch them, without doing anything". It is that pest which starts to devour a country's economy till it demolishes it's virtue and worth both. It is an issue worldwide and no country in the world is untouched by it. Philippines, North Korea,Syria, Iraq, Vietnam, Yemen, Cambodia,Thailand, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, India are some corrupt Asian countries.
Bribery exists everywhere and in many different forms, but corruption is bound to reach a highest point. Every time we hear of a new scam, the number of zeros always seem to increase. The history of corruption can be traced back to Post-Independent India with the JEEP SCANDAL" in 1948. After Independence Indian Government signed a deal with a company in England to supply 200 jeeps. The contract's worth was Rs.80lakhs but only 155 jeeps were delivered. The then India's High Commissioner to England VK Krishna Menon was embroiled in the controversy. Later on, he was appointed as an ally to Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru.
Why is corruption so rampant in India? In order to find this, one has to back a few decades and understand the Economic Model adopted after Independence. Three of our most prominent leaders Mahatma Gandhi, Jawahar Lal and Sardaar Patel had different Economic Ideologies and their own perspective of witnessing India after the Independence. Mahatma Gandhi, believed in self sufficient villages with minimal government interference, Jawahar Lal wanted an Economy controlled by Government detesting private companies and Sardaar Patel wanted India to be a Mixed Economy of public - private partnership.
One of these ideas would come Into action only if we had an elected Prime Minister. An Election was held in the Congress Party and all the votes were in favor of Sardaar Patel and almost none to Jawahar Lal. But for unknown reasons, Gandhi asked Sardar Patel to step down from the league and that's how Jawahar Lal became the undisputed leader of Congress.
This was the beginning. After being elected as the Prime Minister of the Independent India, the first thing he did was bringing all the heavy industries under Government control and all the Small scale industries were licensed. Jawahar Lal, it seems, was never in favor of competition between companies and he licensed the quantities of the products manufactured and no company was allowed to manufacture more than what it was licensed for. Such rules were absurd and impractical and led to corruption in the system.
Let's understand this with a simple example. You are a young entrepreneur, and want to start a cosmetic business named "magic". You apply for a license and with it also apply for the approval of the machine to produce it. But Government would not allow a purchase more than Rs 32,000 and the cost of your machine is Rs 48,000. So you try to bribe the bureaucrat. So after you have the machine. Government tells you that, you cannot produce more than 640 products in a month but the machine can produce 810 products. So, you are forced to follow a bogus method. You start a game company with some other name, and this company can get machine on rent from " magic".
After Jawahar Lal, even her daughter Indira Gandhi, who became the 1st lady Prime Minister of India, proudly claimed that "" Corruption Is a Universal Formula".
So the legacy of doing corruption and offering bribes became a common thing in the lives of bureaucrats and common people. Since then, we have a list of Scams:

It is said that if the roots of the building are not well built they will ruin the whole creation. Today, India Is the leading economy, but corruption is still very much present. It's not only seen in the government offices but also in Sports and Hospitals where they give fake medicines. Therefore, it is not a surprise that lots of Research papers are dedicated to this issue.
