WHO AND WHAT MAKES MORE SENSE !!

Before writing my opinion and presenting it to you, I was really in a mess about what to state here, whom should I actually say is right in this controversy, those who backed Tanmay Bhatt (AIB Member- Indian comedy group) or those who rose in opposition regarding his Snapchat video creating a jeer at a conversation between Sachin Tendulkar and Lata Mangeshkar about who’s the best player- Sachin or Virat.

This is not his first time, in January last year, AIB hosted an event “AIB Knock out Championship” including few actors being ‘roasted’ by the whole group and which caused an uproar for breaching the limits of vulgarity. So many people have started taking up this issue as not being comic in any sense but just an insult to our cultural values, saying it is dishonouring the people who brought laurels to this country and that they both are Bharat Ratna recipients which is by far not understood by Tanmay Bhatt. The twitterati got divided into people who are mocking Tanmay and those who stand by him saying “Not being funny is not a crime”. His video saw an instant reaction by Maharashtra Police and Raj Thackeray’s MNS (Maharashtra Navnirman Sena) saying a complaint should be launched against him and that he would face the beating by MNS people.

·       Anupam Kher tweets that “I am 9 times winner of #BestComicActor. Have a great sense of humor. But This's NOT humor. #disgusting&disrespectful.” 

·       Ritesh Deshmukh tweets “Am absolutely shocked. Disrespect is not cool and neither is it funny”

·       Celina Jaitley tweets “Absolutely Shocked n appalled!! Not amused @mangeshkarlata ji needs to be apologised to NOW ”

To which Tanmay replied

“  LOL, Twitter, jaha pe logo ke marne se pehle unke marne ki khabar trend hoti hai "tastleless" aur "crass" jaise words use kar rahi hai ”

“When you guys write about me tomorrow can you please use my Snapchat ID - its thetanmay thanks”

“Roast wale din yaad AA Gaye by god”

I started waiting for the clock to hit 9 at that night and as it did, I immediately switched on to my favourite News Channel which had just started to debate on this very meaty topic. Very neatly those who wanted to back Tanmay did back him and those who wanted to ask questions did ask and in between the anchor raised a question saying where is it written that it is illegal to make stars a subject of comedy and not a politician, majorly referring to Rahul Gandhi ? It’s a strong one though. Go and search videos like Lalu Yadav’s funny moments and Rahul Gandhi’s  funny moments, you’ll come to know. Mr Bhatt did make some serious disclaimer to this video before sharing it with people which said “I make such nonsense on my Snapchat”

What are the people of my country up to these days, I sometimes completely fail to understand. So many people compare this issue with the “GORA Culture” saying disrespect is all they can offer to their elders. Because Tanmay said “Lata Didi’s face looks 500 years old and that she should die” and other indecent actions. When I first saw this video, the curiosity with which I searched “Tanmay Bhatt - Lata v/s Sachin Civil War” turned out to be completely opposite of what I had thought it to be, Reckless Comedy is what I think of it as. Humor is when it is supposed to make me laugh but it didn’t help to stretch my lips even a bit. But hey, isn’t it the rule that either an act would be funny or it won’t be. Why to waste our time giving it the worthiness that it doesn’t deserve? Is Tanmay Bhatt by any means a threat to our National Security that everyone thinks it is a worrisome problem? Stated by a news channel and I think they make sense. One can’t just go on and on about his comic sense and want him to get jailed or beaten up, now that would be intolerant and unjust. His comedy was both pathetic and baseless I agree, but making such remarks about the comedian would be disrespecting our freedom of speech and that too when the targeted celebrities didn’t even say anything about it nor they were offended, as of now. Some say he did this because he was not highlighted since a while now in the news and this is what he wanted, people like me writing about him. Fine he got a major publicity from a Snapchat video which gets deleted after 24 hours, big deal, but such repercussions are not cool especially when we have to deal with so many other things in our country like the recent Drought in Maharashtra. Is Tanmay’s video more important than people who are not getting to drink water!?
