PRABAL GURUNG: NYFW17

February is here, which means we get to see fashion maestro's displaying their first segment of prepossessing apparels for Autumn/Winter Collection. Fashion week happens twice a year in some of the major fashion capitals of the world; New York, London, Milan and Paris. Recently Desigual, Jeremy Scott, Anna Sui, Marc Jacobs, Ralph Lauren and other designers exhibited the New York Fashion Week 17 where some designers used the runway as a platform for imitating the post political and social changes in the country. Slogan t-shirts seemed to be the best way designers were expressing their opinions, like Christian Siriano showed a black t-shirt with a message written in White saying "People are People" and paired it with a pink silk skirt.

During her second collaboration with Tommy Hilfiger, Gigi adorned a white bandanna in support of the #TiedTogetherMoment which signifies unity and inclusiveness.

Mexican heritage designer Raul Solis, who has successfully established his career in America, sent out models in underwear reading "No Ban No Walls"or more precisely "F*ck Your Wall

There was plenty of diversity in terms of size and color in NYFW 17. Michael Kors, Prabal Gurung, Christian Siriano, Tracy Reese and others showed their faith in dressing women of all shapes and sizes. From Ashley Graham to Iska Lawrence, 27 plus sized models walked at NYFW making it the most Body Positive show ever.

But there was one show in particular which actually moved me and that was Prabal Gurung's Fall/Winter 2017 collection. The show was absolutely incredible and I loved the ending making it one of the most powerful ruways of the season. It's nice when your collection is inspired by real life moments. He was inspired by Women's march he attended in New York City. His collection was specifically a celebration of feminism. Towards the end of the show, Prabal brought to view his fall representation with bold statements like "the Future Is Female", "Nevertheless She Persisted" , "Voices for Choices"written on the plane white and black t-shirts worn by Bella hadid(who opened the show), Candice Huffine, Marquita Pring and others who walked on the tunes of Imagine by John Lennon bringing out a strong and beautiful message.
"I can't speak for anyone else. But having come from where I come from - Nepal, and a single mother who brought us up - it's been my thing since day one. So, to me Feminism is not just a trending topic".
Other than the feminism part of the show, the models were also seen wearing furry overcoats, oversized sweaters with dramatic arms and nice tailored suits. the colors were rejoicing including lemon, emerald, silver, black. And finally when the time had come to acknowledge the applause Gurung appeared in a t-shirt reading "This Is What A Feminist Looks Like" and some folks got a little teary.
