Gulabo Sitabo: A Star-Studded Thespian Show!

★★★☆☆
So this is how it goes - you see the cast and if its one mighty multi-starrer pack(like Gibo Sibo) you start spinning your cinematic conviction around it like a vivid yarn or something.
You get convinced that it's a blockbuster! Upon knitting it, you realise you were sold only a really tempting colour and the beauty of the end product lies in how you are weaving it. Of course, no one minds a little flamboyance.
Written by Juhi Chaturvedi , this class write up was further nuanced under the direction of Shoojit Sircar. The film won't make you rolling on floor laughing, yet would still crack you up with the dialect and its delivery.
Further talking about the embellishments of the film, Mirza Sheikh Nawab's(Amitabh Bacchhan) protruding nose, Baankey Rastogi's(Ayushman Khurrana) lisp and Fatima Begum's(Farrukh Jafar) inner thug bring out the best along with the rest(Vijay Raaz & Brijendra Kala).
The film focuses on a 100 year old archaic establishment of Lucknow (Fatima Mahal) that has the heart of not just the owner but its tenants too. Framing the cat and dog like bickering between the owner and tenant, the film feels like a page taken out from a gripping theatrical script with a comic  score.

The characters are so synonymous to the people you come across in daily life. If released as a theatrical play, you will feel a weird connection to Mirza's devious ways of troubling Baankey Rastogi and him hitting back. The story and the performances hold a mirror to the society and its surroundings. The pawns of Gulabo Sitabo are in bad need of a fresh coat of paint just as their haveli which by the way belongs to Fatima Begum who sells it off to her long time lover as a result of Mirza duping her.
If you're looking for unexpected or surprising end, don't even begin watching it. That's the magic of  Gulabo Sitabo. You misconstrue it for something that will provoke a thought but is a light-hearted satirical take on the king like life of Lucknow and its people.
